Hello everyone! I've kept fish before, and worked at PetsMart for two years in college, but because I was in a dorm I could only watch people setup tanks and couldn't do anything myself. Well, now I'm done with school and I decided to get back into the hobby!

I set up a 29 gal a couple months ago, it's a community planted tank. I was actually inspired to set up a tank when I saw Bamboo Shrimp at a local PetCo, and only just got my first Bamboo Shrimp today. I have some shrimp that are breeding in that tank already, I think they're cherry shrimp, or some kind of relative (my lfs carries "algae shrimp"). I also have a ten gallon for a crayfish.

And now, because I'm addicted to shrimp, I'm setting up a 20 long invertebrate-only tank. It's been running for four days, just added a few fish to help it cycle. I'll probably start with some RCS when it gets cycled, then add maybe some CRS or Bee Shrimp. I'd love to keep every kind of shrimp, but don't want them to interbreed, and I'd like something easy to breed so I can have an active colony. I'm still trying to figure out what kind of snails I can keep in there that won't eat my plants.

I look forward to browsing the forums!

Hi and welcome to AZI! It sounds like we have a new Invertaholic on site :brows: Many of our snails will snack on live plants if they don't get enough food from daily/supplemental feeding, I have learned to balance the feeding and my plants are safe for it  Please let us know how your tanks turn out.
A little kindness goes a long way.

And raising shrimp will help you on the journey.

Hello and welcome to the forum! :D Thank you for posting your introduction.

Sounds like you are off to a good start already. What color are the shrimp that you got as algae eating shrimp? It might help ID them. Bamboo shrimp are very cool. I have one that I've had for about 4 years now and he likes to hang out on the top of a plant that is above my air stone.

What type of crayfish do you plan on getting? There are so many beautiful Crays available. Again, welcome to the forum.
I never met a shrimp that I didn't like.

I'm pretty sure they're cherry shrimp. Some of them are red, but others look almost blue. I already have a crayfish, just a regular old reddish-brown one. Thanks for the welcome everyone!

So nice to have new friends joining our forum! Glad you decided to check us out. Welcome, and please feel free to ask questions and share your pics and experiences with us!

As far as easy, attractive shrimp go: my favorite are the Cherry shrimp and Yellow shrimp. They can't be kept together (as you know), but they are both beautiful in their own way. As far as snails that won't eat your plants or lay eggs all over them: my favorite are various varieties of MTS snails. Of course, that really comes down to your personal choice. I love my Assassin snails, too. They don't eat plants, but they will make snacks out of other snails!

I am a relatively new member myself, and I have really enjoyed this website. I am already getting hooked too, except I was a bit slower to get some shrimp. I had a whole bunch of questions to ask (Just ask Neonshrimp and Aquagirl) and they were all answered here. Good luck with the hobby! :GoodLuck:
